Makeup for Maternity Portraiture – Nicole

Posted by manja on April 7, 2012

I remember the first time I spoke to Nicole on the phone prior to her maternity portraiture session. We were discussing her makeup and hairdo, and the look that she wanted for her photoshoot.

She expressed her anxiety because she had gotten her hair cut during her pregnancy, hence it was shorter than she was usually used to, and she wanted long hair for her photoshoot. Well, I promptly replied that it was not a problem because I provide hair extensions! Yay! 🙂

First, I gave her a sultry yet natural look with beige-peach nude tones on her eyes, cheeks, and lips.

Then, I lengthened her slightly wavy hair with wavy hair extensions. For her outdoor session, volume was created using scrunching techniques, back-combing, and hairspray. Yes, it is still possible to create nice hairdos outdoors where there are no plug-points for electrical hairstyling appliances! 😉 After that, I gave her a side-twist-and-pin, so that the hair wouldn’t hide her pretty features. 🙂

For the indoor session, I curled her hair with a curling iron for even more volume, before I clipped on the hair-extensions. I then gave her a sexy half-updo to match both her black dress and white lace outfit.

Makeup for Maternity Portraiture – Yasmine

Posted by manja on March 8, 2012

This is a simple makeup and hairdo done for Yasmine for her maternity portraiture.

Yasmine has fair complexion and pretty features. She wanted a natural look for her photoshoot and her only concern was some slight breakouts due to hormonal changes during her pregnancy.

These are easily covered up with concealer and foundation, to give a flawless smooth matt complexion. 🙂

I used neutral tones to give her a natural ‘no-makeup’ look. For her shoulder-length hair, I created slight waves at the ends with a curling iron, and then accessorized with a hairband.

Makeup for Outdoor Pre-Wedding Photography – Lily

Posted by manja on February 6, 2012

This is a makeup and hair session that I did for Lily’s pre-wedding in Langkawi.

Lily has sweet and demure girl-next-door looks, which are enhanced by natural makeup.

For her eyes, cheeks, and lips, I used nude tones to bring out that natural beauty.

Her only concern was her baby-fine hair which had been rebonded. Since the rebonding was done quite a few months prior to her photoshoot, it was safe to style it without causing the rebonding to become undone.

For her first look, to match her long flowy gown, I used hair extensions to create more length, volume and waves. And to go with the tropical floral theme, I accessorized her hair with frangipanis.

The next two pictures show her natural rebonded hair. For this casual holiday look, I just styled her hair with hairspray.

For her next look, once again, I used hair extensions to provide the length and waves. I then accessorized it with a simple pearl hairband for a romantic look.

Finally, for a fun-look to match her holiday wear, I gave her a side pony tail, using hair extensions to create more length and volume.

Makeup for Family Portraiture – Viktoria

Posted by manja on January 13, 2012

Time flies and it’s already almost half a month into the new year! Happy new year to all my blog readers, clients, and friends! 🙂

To start off this new year, here are some photos of the makeup that I did for Viktoria and her daughter. This was for a family portraiture session.

Viktoria and her family are from Russia and were in KL for a holiday. In conjunction with her baby daughter’s first birthday, they decided to celebrate by having a family-portraiture-cum-first-birthday photography session! What a great idea! 😉

Her baby daughter did not need any makeup and had relatively little hair, so not much styling was required for her with the exception of a change of hairbands and accessories.

Hence, my focus was on Viktoria and her older daughter.

Both mother and daughter have gorgeous speckled grey eyes, the kind that seem to contain a million colours when you look into them! I’ve only seen such eyes twice! And the other time, it was also on a Russian girl whose makeup and hair I styled. 🙂

Viktoria has strong features and eyebrows, which require very little eyebrow pencil shading, just some shaping.

She had been outdoors sunbathing by the pool, and was concerned that her face would look dark and that her skin would be dry from the chlorinated swimming pool water. However, this is easily solved with the use of a good moisturizer and face base, prior to applying foundation that is a shade lighter.

For her eyes and cheeks, I used warm blush tones to complement her tan and give her a healthy glow.

She wanted to wear her usual trademark pink lipstick and I was happy to oblige! :)She also preferred to wear her hair down and straight for the photoshoot, so I used the straightening iron and hairspray to style it.

Her daughter wanted her slightly wavy hair to be straight like her mom’s, so I also used the straightening iron and hairspray to style it… and then finished off by accessorizing with a pretty lace hairband. For her eyes and cheeks, I used natural blush tones to give her a healthy glow.

Makeup for Outdoor Pre-Wedding Photography – Nikita

Posted by manja on December 2, 2011

Recently, I had the opportunity to do Nikita’s makeup and hair for her post-wedding photoshoot in Putrajaya. She and her husband flew in to KL from Bombay early in the morning. About an hour later, I was at their hotel, doing her makeup and hair and they were preparing for their outdoor photoshoot!

She wore two different outfits for her photoshoot.

The first one was the shalwar kameez, a traditional Indian costume. To complement the vibrant colours of her attire, I gave her lilac shimmer and soft pink tones on her eyes, cheeks, and lips, respectively. For this look, I put her hair up in a neat pony-tail twist.

The second one was casual wear. To match her trendy black and white outfit, and silver accessories, I gave her silver shimmer on her eyes, and blush tones on her cheeks and lips. For this second look, I gave her a half-up do.

Makeup for Outdoor Pre-Wedding Photography – SuLin

Posted by manja on November 17, 2011

Recently, I had the opportunity to do SuLin’s makeup and hair for her outdoor pre-wedding photography session in Krabi.

We had a total of four different looks.

Her first costume was an elegant white tulle wedding gown with matching veil. I gave her a natural look using peach and nude tones on her eyes, cheeks, and lips, for a healthy outdoor bridal look. I put her hair up in a twist and pinned the veil securely at the back. For outdoor photoshoots at beachfront locations where the breeze might be a tad strong, it’s vital that the veil be fastened extra securely so that it doesn’t get detached during the photoshoot. 😉

For her second look, she wore a dual-tone light-and-dark pink sun-dress and white straw hat. To match her holiday look, I gave her blush and pink tones on her eyes, cheeks, and lips. For her hair, I just twisted it back into an updo and pinned it securely, for a neat look to go with her hat.

For her third look, she wore a colourful pink and black silk pareo-style dress. Once again, I maintained the blush and pink tones on her eyes, cheeks, and lips, and I gave her a half-updo for her hair, using a matching black and pink hair fastener.

Her fourth look was a beach look and the highlight of this segment of the photoshoot was a ‘trash-the-dress’ session in the hotel swimming pool! She wore an orange-print sarong-style dress. For this look, I gave her peach and orange tones on her eyes, cheeks, and lips. And her hair was once again done in a half-updo. Since she was going to get wet for this session, it was extremely important that the makeup did not smudge nor come off during the photoshoot.

I have to add here that all the makeup I use is waterproof, and hence, suitable for such surface water photoshoots. As you can see, it does not come off… unless of course, one intends it to by rubbing the eye or face area. 😉

Makeup for Outdoor Pre-Wedding Photography – Ting

Posted by manja on October 6, 2011

Well, after her makeup trial, finally, it was the day of the pre-wedding photoshoot. And, vintage is definitely in… for this shoot! 🙂

Ting’s first outfit was a gold cheongsam… very befitting her Old Shanghai themed photoshoot.

To complement her outfit, I gave her a classic updo, and accessorized it with a red rose. Her makeup was done in a 1920s nostalgic style with ruby red lips and fuchsia-pink on the eyelids and cheeks.

Her second outfit was a chili-red midi-length dress, which matched her classic vintage-designed red luggage bag. In keeping with her Nostalgic Traveller theme, I gave her a half-updo, accessorized with white roses.

We decided that it would be more impactful to contrast the colour of her hair accessories with her outfit, instead of everything being in the same colour. Now don’t you think the effect is more exciting and striking? 😉

Her third look was vintage lace… a very romantic Victorian-style ivory wedding gown! 🙂

And to go with it, soft and romantic makeup. For her hair, I gave her a half-updo and pinned on her classic mantilla veil in the traditional way namely around the top and sides of her hair, to emphasize its pretty lace border.

Later, I gave her an updo, and accessorized it with a vintage knitted lace hairband.

I must say I had lots of fun creating so many vintage looks for one shoot! 😉

Makeup Trial for Outdoor Pre-Wedding Photography – Ting

Posted by manja on October 3, 2011

Ting loves all things old, which is why she selected the Old Shanghai and Nostalgic Traveller themes for her pre-wedding photoshoot.

Here are some photos taken during the makeup trial.

In keeping with her Old Shanghai theme, her first outfit was an elegant gold-coloured cheongsam with beautiful embroidery. To complement her outfit, I bunned up her hair in a classic updo, and accessorized it with a burgundy red rose. Her makeup was done in a 1920s nostalgic style with ruby red lips and fuchsia-pink on the eyelids and cheeks.

Her second outfit was a vintage chili red midi-length dress, and she even had a classic red luggage bag to go with it. Her nostalgic traveller look was created by giving her a half-updo accessorized with some red roses. Once again, her makeup was also done in the romantic vintage style.

Now, don’t you think that vintage is absolutely pretty? 🙂

Makeup for Maternity Portraiture – Jo

Posted by manja on September 5, 2011

Sometime ago, I did makeup for Jo, for her family portraiture.

And quite recently, it’s a pleasure to be able to do her makeup once again, this time for her maternity portraiture.

Jo’s beautiful classic features are enhanced with soft lavender tones, turning a natural beauty, into a glamorous beauty! 😉

Makeup for Outdoor Pre-Wedding Photography – Eunice

Posted by manja on August 15, 2011

Recently, I had the opportunity to do Eunice’s makeup and to style her hair for her pre-wedding photography session in Cameron Highlands.

To complement her pretty features, I selected neutral earth tones like bronze, beige, and peach for her eyelids, cheeks, and lips. She was concerned about certain blemishes on her face which were caused by stress. However, that was easily taken care of with the use of a concealer prior to putting on a natural shade of foundation that complemented her lovely tan.

For her first look, I gave her a demure girl-next-door look with a half-updo and her long veil pinned securely at the back.

For her second look, I gave her a more romantic and sultry look by adding waves to her long hair with the curling iron. Then, I twist-plaited up the sides of her long fringe from her face, clipping pretty ivory rosebuds onto one side.

For her third look, she wore a pretty blue dress with a white lab coat over it. This was her uniform since she’s a doctor. I gave her a simple and neat side-do with a matching classic blue clip.

For her fourth and final look, she wore a funky brightly-coloured outfit… a bright yellow top and pink shorts. I maintained her simple and neat side-do, but changed the hair accessories to a matching pink ribbon.
